Coming Back to Destiny

Thursday, May 28, 2015

We haven't spoken at length about Destiny in some time. It's been difficult to wrangle a piece together since the experience has been so very up and down. I expected a great deal from the game at launch and was initially very pleased with what I received. When the story ended and the grind began, my enthusiasm turned bitter. I still managed to have some fun despite doing the same thing week after week, slowly working towards a higher level but the illusion of depth was gone.

Towerfall: Darkworld

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

We have written about Towerfall: Ascension before, but to bring you up to speed: Towerfall is a fast-paced retro-style archery platformer from developer Matt Makes Games. Towerfall is a fantastically addictive game and complex game. It taps the nostalgia vein well with its colorful 2D 8-bit art style, but don't let that fool you into thinking that it's an unsophisticated game. The controls are basic and you have a finite amount of arrows to loose on your enemies as you run/jump/bounce about the arena. There are VS and Co-op Quest modes that support up to 4 players to explore. In a time when local multiplayer is becoming less and less available, Towerfall is a breath of fresh air.

Revisiting Clock Town

Thursday, May 21, 2015

I have been traveling much more often lately. The flights are long and books (while amazing) are heavy, so I've been playing my Nintendo 3DS XL. While it's not the newest with its fancy C-stick, it does more than alright.  What have I been playing on it? Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask!

Playerbase Desynchronized

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

I'd like to take some time to talk about Ubisoft. Specifically, I'd like to address some of the numerous issues the developer/publisher has had in recent years. Most of us remember the nightmare of Assassin's Creed Unity and their string of PR nightmare scenarios following its release, or their terrible excuses for not including female characters. These issues have become so synonymous with Ubisoft that their latest announcement was preceded by a three minute video featuring members of the AC dev team talking about Unity and what they've learned from it. That's well and good, but it doesn't begin to address the real issues at Ubisoft. Follow me.

3ppT: 4/9 Recap

Thursday, May 14, 2015
We had a pretty small group tonight, with a couple illnesses and one business trip, so it ended up being a three man (technically two man, one woman) group tackling Jim Groves' Murder's Mark. All three characters were 1st level human Monster Trainers, from Northwinter Press' Mystical: Kingdom of Monsters. Our party consisted of:

Theron the pyromancer and his fiery compatriot Ash the squit

The charming Red and her feline sidekick Catnip the lightning cat

And Slacker, with his root snake partner Pesto

I'm Going to Miss You Silent Hill

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

The news that Silent Hills had been cancelled was absolutely devastating, particularly when it's practically your vacation home and it's the first bit of news you read when returning home from another country.  I ordinarily don't make negative posts, but, I'll top off the negativity with my thoughts on the Playable Teaser or "PT"(which as of 4/29/15 is no longer be available on PSN).

Ether One

Friday, May 8, 2015

I have been a Certified Nurses Assistant for many years, I specialize in Alzheimers and Dementia care. So when I saw this snippet lead the Ether One for PS4 promotional trailer,

"A game that helped me cope with a family member's dementia"
                                                                                       - Kotaku
It peaked my interest.

We Are Back!

Thursday, May 7, 2015

After more than two weeks away it is a pleasure to be back home. We've been separate from the internet and many games while on vacation, so there is plenty of catching up to do. Our regular posting schedule will resume but be patient while we play catch-up for a couple weeks. After all, a lot happened in our absence. Let's start things off with a little roundup of things you can expect to see in the coming days.
