Goodbye, World: Fallout Shelter Released for Android

Thursday, August 13, 2015

The only low point of Todd Howard's E3 presentation was having to wait for Fallout Shelter to be released for Android devices. Now that the wait is over, I'm happily lording over my vault dwellers; assigning them jobs, dressing them in various outfits and sending them out into the wasteland. As invested as I've been in the Fallout universe, I'm always curious about any new approach to it. Fallout Shelter blends the RPG with elements of The Sims and Sim Tower (that's right, I went way back).

Battle Fleet 2; Scorched Seas

One of the first games I remember playing on PC was Scorched Earth. It was quickly followed by Worms and Cannon Fodder. So began a lifelong obsession with turn based wargames. Reading the description of Battle Fleet 2 I was immediately taken by one sentance in particular; "..Battle Fleet 2 is the radically improved sequel to the original and has kept the 'Worms' / 'Scorched Earth' style angle+power mechanic..." There, in a very Maguirrean sense, they had me.

Dungeon Keeper: Gutting a Classic

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Dungeon Keeper was one of Bullfrog Productions' best series. This is the developer behind Syndicate, Theme Hospital, Magic Carpet and Populous. Bullfrog is a legendary name in classic PC games. These games were among my favorites and remain on numerous "best ever" lists year after year. Bullfrog was dissolved by EA years ago, but their intellectual properties have remained in EA's hands since. Recently, EA released a new Dungeon Keeper as a mobile game for Android and iOS, but in doing so have destroyed the good name of one of my favorite series.
